Catalina (Martin Serrano) de Salazar was born about 1683, most likely in Guadalupe del Paso where her family was living in 1684.[1][2]
Residence
In December 1692, Catalina (Martin Serrano) de Salazar, age 9, lived in El Paso del Norte, New Mexico, Spain.[1]
In 1707, Cathalina (de Salazar), age 30, lived in Santa Cruz, New Mexico, Spain.[3]
Marriage
Catalina de Salazar married Alonso Fernandez on 26 Jan 1695 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Spain. An exact namesake of her paternal grandmother, she identified herself as a native of New Mexico and a daughter of Capitan Luis Martin and Melchora de los Reyes.[4]
Research Notes
Catalina's birth name was Catalina Martín Serrano but as an adult she chose to use her paternal grandmother's surname and became Catalina de Salazar,[4] perhaps to distinguish herself from her older half-sister also named Catalina.
Luis had two different daughters named Catalina, one with each wife. The older Catalina Martín Serrano was born about 1677 and nothing more is known about her. The younger Catalina was born about 1683 and was called Catalina de Salazar.
